DWFO #3: “Rose’s Theme / Doomsday”

WHO

this was pretty interesting

I guess, in general, pop and rock music isn’t good with melody either.

You’ll probably only find a good melody in a kindergarten class these days.

yea kids starting out with music tend to have nifty ideas but,

???

i mean this is pretty effective unless we have differing ideas of what makes a good melody/ what pop music is?

I mean there’s a lot of recitative type stuff in a lot of pop tunes cuz they’re trying to get through lyrics (and/or aren’t imaginative) but often tunes are designed to be memorable. This means a series of intervals that are intriguing will often be built into the tune so that folks can/will sing it back.

Specifically the ascending fourth to the descending half step in the “I’ve got a feeling” line is an example of this. It’s the standard formula of leap->step->memorable melody.

i enjoyed it
