i mean this is pretty effective unless we have differing ideas of what makes a good melody/ what pop music is?
I mean there’s a lot of recitative type stuff in a lot of pop tunes cuz they’re trying to get through lyrics (and/or aren’t imaginative) but often tunes are designed to be memorable. This means a series of intervals that are intriguing will often be built into the tune so that folks can/will sing it back.
Specifically the ascending fourth to the descending half step in the “I’ve got a feeling” line is an example of this. It’s the standard formula of leap->step->memorable melody.
